Dear neighbor,
It’s been a busy month at home in the district and in Washington D.C. meeting with constituents and visiting local organizations and businesses to discuss shared priorities and concerns.
One of the biggest issues that I continue to hear from you about is the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Middle East. My office has received hundreds of calls from constituents who are deeply concerned by the ongoing conflict and the President’s decision to engage U.S. troops in this war.
Iran should never have the opportunity to develop a nuclear weapon. But engaging U.S. troops in a war in the Middle East is not the answer. I have been outspoken against this war since the very beginning and have voted for a War Powers Resolution to reassert Congress’ constitutional authority and prevent billions of taxpayer dollars from funding a war overseas. I am also working with my colleagues to address the reckless consequences of the President’s decision to engage in this conflict, including the skyrocketing price of gas, and minimize U.S. involvement moving forward.
As always, my office is here to serve as a resource for you and your family. Whether you need help with a federal agency, have a question about legislation, are seeking grant support, or want to share your thoughts on an issue, please contact me. My team and I are committed to making sure your voice is heard in Washington. You can contact us at mannion.house.gov, or by calling my offices in Utica, Syracuse, or Washington, D.C. - we are here to help.
Sincerely,

I joined Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Mohawk Valley EDGE, Mohawk Valley Health System, and other stakeholders to announce $2 million in federal funding to support the redevelopment of the former St. Luke’s Hospital campus. This funding award is one of 15 Community Project Funding requests that I worked to advance in partnership with local leaders across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. All 15 projects have passed Congress and been signed into law, delivering a total of more than $15 million in federal funding to address locally identified needs—including public safety improvements, lead service line replacement, water and wastewater modernization, workforce training, airport infrastructure upgrades, and research critical to America’s economic and national security. To learn more about the St. Luke’s project, visit my website here.

I announced $1,031,000 in federal funding for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office alongside Sheriff Toby Shelley and other officers. The funding will allow the Sheriff’s Office to purchase and equip a state-of-the-art mobile command unit to enhance emergency response, strengthen interagency coordination, and improve operational effectiveness in the field. This funding award is another one of the 15 Community Project Funding requests that I worked to advance in partnership with local leaders across Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. It was a special honor to present Frank J. Filippelli, Jr with his long overdue Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal for his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Filippelli, a Disabled American Veteran, earned his medals in recognition of his service, sacrifice, and bravery in combat. While he was awarded in 1969, Mr. Filippelli never received his medals. It was a privilege to join Mr. Filippelli and his family to honor his service and present him with the medals he earned.

I was proud to be recognized by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians as the 2026 Legislator of the Year Award for my work on the bipartisan EMS Counts Act. My legislation would help improve federal law to more accurately count EMTs, paramedics, and cross-trained firefighters in order to support their work in communities across the country. I’m grateful for the recognition and proud to be advocating for the EMS professionals in NY-22 who save lives every day.

I joined 120 of my colleagues to introduce the Energy Bills Relief Act, legislation that prioritizes consumers and ensures access to low-cost energy for our homes, businesses, and economy. Over the last five years, utility bill costs in NY-22 have risen 70 percent. America's energy policy should prioritize consumers, not producers. As everyday Americans continue to face sky-rocketing prices, I will continue fighting for a grid that works for everyone.

From joining Meals on Wheels volunteers at the Cortland County Office for Aging and Eastern Onondaga County to meeting with the next generation of farmers at the Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference, my days in the District are full of meaningful conversations that help inform my work in Washington, D.C. I’m grateful to the program coordinators and volunteers who take time out of their day to show me around and educate me and my staff on federal priorities. If you’re interested in having me or a member of my staff visit your organization, please visit my website at https://mannion.house.gov/services/event-request.

I gathered with communities in Auburn and Syracuse to speak in-person with constituents about my work in D.C. I appreciated the tough questions and meaningful dialogue about immigration policy, the cost of living, and other important issues facing our district. Thank you to the community leaders and staff who made these events possible as well as all of the community members who took the time to speak with me.

My bipartisan bill, the Science of Reading Act, passed out of the Education and Workforce committee with unanimous support. This bill would expand evidence-based instruction that will help students build skills early and effectively. It’s important to use all the available research to ensure our students are getting world-class education and have all the tools they need to succeed. Read more on my website here.

I’m excited to join Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens and the Syracuse City School District for a fun-filled day of stories, celebration, community pride, and a Day of Literacy on May 2nd. Students and families are encouraged to join us for the free “Together We Read, Together We Rise” event at Clary Middle School at 11:30am to promote the joy of reading, recognize the accomplishments of Syracuse students, and highlight the importance of building a community where books open doors for every child and every family. RSVP here, I hope to see you there!
