January and February Update

Hi everyone,

It’s Congressman John Mannion. I’m excited to launch my Congressional newsletter to keep you all updated on the work my office and I are doing across NY-22.

I came to DC to fight for my constituents across the political spectrum. I’m ready to work with anyone who will help me deliver on the priorities you’ve shared with me: making our schools better and our communities safer and more affordable, expanding the number of good-paying jobs across the region by ensuring the success of Micron and the region’s high-tech future, and fixing longstanding problems like our broken immigration system.

The past few weeks have been filled with too much chaos and confusion, and I know many of you share my serious concerns over how recent actions by President Trump and his Administration have caused harm to our communities and neighbors while doing nothing to address real issues working families are facing. I will continue to do everything I can to speak out against and put a stop to the dangerous efforts we’re seeing from unelected officials like Elon Musk and defend Congress’s authority as defined by the Constitution. And I will continue to fight for real progress on issues that matter most: lowering costs, strengthening our local economy, and improving health care in our communities.

As I do this work, I want to hear from you. The best ideas don’t come from Washington, they come from Auburn and Cortland and Syracuse and Clinton and Utica and all the communities in between. Taking the Oath of Office

On January 3rd I took the oath of office to begin serving Central New York and the Mohawk Valley in the 119th Congress. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent my hometown and fight for the communities that raised me.

My Committee Assignments

I’m excited to serve on the Education and the Workforce Committee and the Agriculture Committee. As a lifelong educator, former union president, and state senator I look forward to championing policies that invest in education and strengthen our workforce. I’ll also work to fight for our region’s farmers, provide our rural communities with better access to health care and broadband, and advance efforts to protect our food supply and strengthen child nutrition programs. Just this week, legislation I joined with my colleagues to introduce passed out of Agriculture Committee with strong bipartisan support. You can read more about it here.

Fighting the Funding Freeze & Defending the Department of Education

I’m fighting to keep Elon Musk and DOGE out of our government and citizens’ private information. When they tried to freeze important funding - I moved quickly to urge the administration to revoke its dangerous guidance. And when it was reported that Trump and Musk plan to dismantle the Department of Education, I joined my colleagues there to demand answers and speak out against efforts that could harm schools and teachers across the district and the children and families who rely on them.

On the Ground in Oneida County

Whenever I’m home from Washington, you can expect to see me meeting with folks across the District. I recently spent time in Utica and Oneida County, where I visited the Talk of the Town radio program and met with local business leaders to discuss ways we can work together to create jobs and strengthen our communities.

Opening the Cayuga Community College Workforce Development Center

I was thrilled to be in Auburn to cut the ribbon and celebrate Cayuga Community College’s new Workforce Development Center. The center will help prepare the entire region for the high-skill and high-demand jobs of the future.
